West Los Angeles College Classroom and Student Services Buildings

Citing an expanding student body population, West LA College has commissioned a new Student Services Building and new Classrooms Building.  Targeting LEED Gold certification, the project includes a “Smart” classroom complete with cameras, connections to a satellite uplink and telephone systems for distance learning. Each building is 50,000 sq. ft. – located across a plaza from each other, the Student Services envelope is a “mirror image” of that of the Classrooms building. Specifications are to meet or exceed Title 24 standards.

Sustainable design elements include:

• Curtain/Wall system (raising percentage of window-to-
  wall ratio for better ventilation and natural daylighting)

• Waterless urinals
• Pushbutton faucets
• Variable air volume system regulated by a thermostat;
  airflow controlled by occupancy sensors
