Hesby Oaks School
Encino, CA
Originally built in the 1950s, Hesby Oaks was deactivated in the 1980s. By combining a two-phased renovation with new construction, Hesby Oaks is now a modern K-8 school, fully worthy of its high “Great Schools” ranking. The renovation emphasis was on meeting the requirements of the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS). The architects and engineers strove to enhance the energy efficiency of the faculties and, where possible, to recycle key elements of the existing structure to meet the criteria. To that end, GBE contributed the designs for new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems throughout as well as low-voltage design for fire and motion detectors, data, voice, audio/visual and fiber optic cabling.
