W Hotel

Westwood, CA

Originally opened in 2000, the W Hotel’s proprietor wanted to modernize the look and update the amenities of his exotic, high-energy bar and restaurant. The design team created more streamlined looks for the lobby bar, dining room and kitchen of the restaurant, Nine-Thirty. The improvements included stainless steel appliances and door finishes and bamboo and wood furnishings. Building systems including electrical and HVAC were upgraded. Specialized lighting fixtures, including a wall of backlit pierced coconut shells, electrical outlets, drains, sprinklers and exhausts were added. In addition, a new sound system with speakers and low-light security cameras were installed to the owner’s specifications.

Returning to the W Hotel, Gotama Building Engineers was hired to perform the MEP renovation of the Bliss Spa, a luxurious day spa and fitness center within the hotel. The 7,000 sf facility offers ten individual treatment rooms, each with its own thermostat to adjust to the treatment being provided and the client’s comfort. Other spa features include steam showers, a sauna, a facial quick-wax room, manicure stations with individual flat screens for movies, luxurious his and hers lounges, an in-spa store, and Bliss’ legendary brownie buffet.
