Commercial projects are those involving “commerce” meaning the exchange or sale of goods for profit. In Persia, where the word “bazaar” originated, an early commercial “project” was a permanent collection of the stands of merchants displaying and selling their wares. Today, commerce has evolved into shops, department stores and malls as well as hotels, resorts, restaurants and offices. Many developments are now mixed use, incorporating two or more of these individual sites. All require architecture and engineering that make these venues visually pleasing and functional and often entertaining in order to meet the demands of increased competition, accessibility, sales and merchandising.
